RESEARCH
RESEARCH
Can we model the extreme weather risks posed to individual Kenyan health facilities and help them to prepare for, mitigate, and transfer these risks?
POLICY ANALYSIS
We will focus initially on disseminating information across relevant stakeholders, but also on creating workable options co-designed with helath system stakeholders across all levels.
CLIMATE ANALYSIS
We will attempt to specify the climate risks (Hazards) faced by individual Kenyan health facilities. The threats associated with climate change will be calculated through use of the latest climate data and weather prediction models.
EPIDEMIOLOGY
We will aim to assess the impact of closures and service limitations on vulnerable populations. We will draw on work that aims to map vulnerability across Kenya to determine the scale of harm caused by climate shocks.
HEALTH FACILITY ANALYSIS
We will survey health facilities to assess the hazards, exposure and their vulnerability to extreme weather. Hospitals will be assessed in terms of physical infrastructure, operations, and workforce using WHO guidelines.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
We will conduct workshops with local leaders to share our findings regarding vulnerabilities and work with them to understand how their priorities can inform practical adaptive action.
CLIMATE AND DISASTER RISK FINANCE AND INSURANCE
We will analyse the impact of extreme weather events but also the costs associated with ensuring resilience of the health system through different forms of financial support.
